Westchester Philharmonic 2017-18 Season: With guest soloists like Jinjoo Cho, Laura Michelle Kelly (Mary Poppins, The King and I), Kelly Hall-Tompkins (Fiddler on the Roof), Edgar Meyer (cool Mac genius who has played with Yo Yo Ma and Bela Flek), and the piano power couple Anna Polonsky and Orion Weiss – this is The Phil’s most star-studded lineups in years!
Westchester Philharmonic Brass Quintet, Lasdon Park – Fri, 8/18: 7pm: The Westchester Phil’s Brass Quintet, led by trumpeter Wayne DuMaine, brings classical favorites, jazz standards, popular hits and more to Lasdon Park Arboretum and Veterans Memorial. The Westchester Philharmonic Season Opener, Performing Arts Center – Sun, 10/15: 3pm: Jaime Laredo conducts the Westchester Phil and award-winning violinist Jinjoo Cho in Mozart’s Symphony No. 7, Mozart’s Symphony No. 35 and Dvorak’s Violin concertos. Hot ticket alert! Winter Pops, Westchester Philharmonic with Laura Michelle Kelly, Performing Arts Center – Sun, 12/17: 3pm: This is our favorite event of the season! Ted Sperling conducts the Westchester Phil and Broadway star Laura Michelle Kelly in a program of Broadway, the Great American Songbook and holiday favorites. Laura created the stage role of Mary Poppins in London’s West End earning the Olivier Award for Best Actress. She went on to star in West End and Broadway productions of South Pacific, The King and I and Finding Neverland. The Westchester Philharmonic, Friends & Family Concert with Kelly Hall-Tompkins, Performing Arts Center – Sun, 2/11: 3pm: Kelly Hall-Tompkins was the violin soloist for the Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof. Here she solos with The Phil on Beethoven’s Eroica, Beethoven’s Romance No. 2 for violin and orchestra and Saint Saens Introduction and Rondo capriccioso. Ted Sperling conducts. Eternal Spring, The Westchester Phil with Edgar Meyer, Performing Arts Center – Sun, 4/8: 3pm: The New York Times called double bassist, Edgar Meyer “the most remarkable virtuoso in the relatively un-chronicled history of his instrument.” He has a mantel-full of Grammys, a MacArthur “Genius” grant and a remarkable instinct for collaboration with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Béla Fleck, Emanuel Ax, and now, the Westchester Philharmonic. Father’s Day! Keys, Kegs & ‘Que, Westchester Philharmonic, Performing Arts Center – Sun, 6/17: 3pm: Jaime Laredo conducts The Phil with guest piano soloists and power couple Anna Polonsky and Orion Weiss. Here they perform Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos. Also on the program are Rossini’s Overture to L’italiana in Algeri and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5.
