Patti LuPone, Faraway Places: Two time Tony winner (Gypsy, Evita) Patti LuPone takes a musical journey in her critically acclaimed concert Far Away Places. Backed by a five-piece band, LuPone interprets an eclectic mix of popular classics from Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, Willie Nelson, Kurt Weill, Edith Piaf, Frederick Hollander and The BeeGees. Alisa Weilerstein (cello), Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Pablo Heras-Casado (conductor): Alisa Weilerstein performs her critically acclaimed interpretation of Elgar’s Cello Concerto. Principal conductor Pablo Heras-Casado leads OSL in a program of Wagner, Prelude to Act III, Lohengrin; and Dvorak, Symphony No. 8 in G, Op.88. Venetian Theatre. Sun, 8/3: 4:30pm.
Opera
The Intimate Donizetti, Chamber Music and Vocal Ensembles: Caramoor’s Bel Canto Young Artists joins acclaimed cellist Edward Arron & Friends in a performance of works for voices and strings by the great master of Bel Canto Opera, Gaetano Donizetti. Including Miserere, Ave Maria and String Quarter No. 18 in e. Spanish Garden. Thurs, 6/26: 6pm.
Lucrezia Borgia by Gaetano Donizetti: A semi-staged concert performance of Donizetti’s opera based on the play by Victor Hugo, and the legend of the femme fatale Lucrezia Borgia – whose three arranged marriages to powerful men helped served the political machinations of her father Pope Alexander VI. Conducted by Will Crutchfield with the Bel Canto Young Artists and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. Spanish Garden. Sat, 7/12 & Fri, 7/18: 8pm.
Bel Canto Showcase, Daniel Mobbs (bass/baritone); Daniel Mobbs, a mainstay of Caramoor opera, joins the Bel Canto Young Artists in songs by Mozart, Schubert and Wagner. The New York Times and Opera News have praised Mobbs for his “rich mellifluous voice” and his “bright clean sound.” Spanish Garden. Thurs, 7/17: 6pm.
Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi: Verdi’s first great masterpiece based on the play Le roi s;amuse by Victor Hugo that tells the tragic story of the Duke of Mantua, his hunch-backed court jester Rigoletto, and Rigoletto’s beautiful daughter Gilda – who sacrifices her life for the love of the Duke in a triangle of seductions, curses and double crosses brought on by her father Rigoletto. Conducted by Will Crutchfield with the Bel Canto Youngs Artist and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. Venetian Theatre. Sat, 7/19: 8pm.

Roseanne Cash
American Roots Music Festival (evening) : Roseanne Cash, The Lone Bellow: Grammy winner Roseanne Cash headlines the evening portion of this all day, family friendly event. Cash will perform her recently released album The River & The Thread in the Venetian Theatre. The Lone Bellow will warm up the crowd with its country soul sound from Park Slope hat has been compared to Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers. Venetian Theatre. Sat, 6/28: 7:30pm.
American Roots Music Festival (day): BYO soccer chairs, blankets and chilled Sauvignon Blanc for this all-day family friendly festival of contemporary Roots stars and comers. Including the blazing banjos of Bruce Molsky, Tony Trischka & Michael Daves; the Americana powerhouse Spuyten Duyvil with it’s barnstorming blend of jug-band, slide guitar, fiddle and blues harp; Miss Tess & The Talkbacks (swing country): Joe Crookston & The Bluebird Jubilee with Peter Glanville (folk); Cricket Tell The Weather (progressive bluegrass); Kim and Reggie Harris (singer/songwriters) and The Walkabout Clearwater Chorus. David Grisman Sextet: Mandolinist David Grisman has been a an acoustic American roots music pioneer for over 50 years. That’s him playing mandolin on “Ripple” on the Grateful Dead’s classic album American Beauty. In 1973 he joined Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, Vassar Clements and John Kahn in the bluegrass group Old and In the Way. He returns to Caramoor with his sextet for a special evening of Caramoor Americana.Caramoor. Fri, 7/25: 8pm.

Cecile McLorin
Club Caramoor presents Cecile McLorin Salvant: The New York Times compared this Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals competition winner to Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn and Ella Fitzgerald. Her 2014 WomanChild was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Spanish Courtyard. Sat, 7/26: 8pm.
Jazz Festival, evening, Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra: Caramoor’s Sonidos Latinos series returns to the Venetian Theatre with the Grammy award-winning pianist and composer Arturo O’Farrill and his orchestra. O’Farrill’s influences run from Afro-Cuban jazz to free jazz and hip-hop. Venetian Theatre. Sun, 7/27: 6:30pm.

Jazz Festival, day: This all-day jazz fest kicks off at noon with the 12 year-old piano sensation Emily Bear and her trio followed by a jam session with Emily, John Beasley and a host of Rising Stars. The program includes the Steve Turre All Stars tribute to the music of jazz trombone legend JJ Johnson, John Beasley’s (piano) tribute to Thelonious Monk, Monkestra Sketches, and the music of tenor sax great Joe Henderson from the Renee Rosnes All Stars. Pat Metheny Unity Group, Bruce Hornsby: Progressive jazz guitar virtuoso Pat Metheny and Bruce Hornsby join forces for an evening of jazz, rock, pop, bluegrass and jam band music. Pat Metheny has three gold albums and 20 Grammy Awards. Singer/improvisational keyboardist Bruce Hornsby has toured with The Grateful Dead and won Grammy Awards in 3 categories including Best New Artist, Bluegrass and Pop Instrumental. Venetian Theatre. Sybarite5: Th3 dynamic string quintet, Sybarite5, has achieved rock star status for their classical technique and the way they “attack” classical and contemporary music from Mozart to Radiohead. Dover Quartet: Caramoor’s 2013-14 Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence won the 2013 Banff Festival String Quartet competition. They return for a program of Haydn, Ullman, Beethoven and a world premiere of Ludwig’s A String Quartet for the 21st Century (Volume XV of Caramoor’s commissioning project). Spanish Courtyard. Igudesman and Joo
Igudesman & Joo, A Little NIGHTMARE MUSIC: We first covered this duo when they played Avery Fisher Hall this New Year’s Eve. The LA Times called them the “kings of classical music comedy” comparing them to a mash up of Jack Benny and Jascha Heifetz combined with a Chico Marx, Vladimir Horowitz and Jerry Lewis. Alisa Weilerstein, with Ariel Quartet: Caramoor 2014 Artist-in-Residence, Alisa Weilerstein teams up with old friends, the internationally acclaimed Ariel Quartet, for ensemble pieces from Boccherini, Arensky and Schubert. Dancing at Dusk
Balkan Hopping with Ivan Milev Band: “They” say that accordion player Ivan Milev “shreds like a rock god.” He and violinist Entcho Todorov and percussionist Seido Salifoski are a high-energy trio, whose songs range from tense, raga-like pulses to frenzied, dueling solos. “We” say Balkan hopping rocks! Afrika Wonba
Hammerstep: Founded by two-time solo World Champion Irish dancer Garrett Coleman and former lead of Riverdance Jason Oremus, Hammerstep’s percussion-driven style draws from many dance traditions including Irish step, tap, hip-hop and African stepping. Art Exhibition
