Tongue in Cheek: The Inflatable Art of Jimmy Kuehnle – Hudson River Museum: Bright, bouncing, inflatable sculptures that are an exciting art form and a witty commentary on our interests and enthusiasms. Made from vinyl-coated polyester fabric, Kuehnle’s creations inflate and deflate, pulsing and “breathing” like an organism, with intriguing names like You Lick Me, I Lick You (shaped like tongues), Hot Polyester Bladder Lung, You Wear What I Wear and Hello Bye. Massively scaled, the site-specific works are put in your way so that you ask yourself, “Is this space mine, or does it belong this extremely large creature blocking me?”(Pictured here: Jimmy Kuehnle, Punch Bubbles, 2016.) Bicycle Sundays on the Bronx River Parkway: Friends of Westchester County Parks closes off a six and a half mile stretch of the Bronx River Parkway for the exclusive use of biker dads and their families. Joggers, scooters and strollers welcome. Park your car at the County Center lot and bike to Scarsdale Road in Yonkers. Round trip 13.1 miles. Bicycle Sundays return on May 1 and run through the last Sunday in June.
Sheffield Island Lighthouse Cruises: Board the 45-foot C.J. Toth catamaran for a cruise to Sheffield Island on the Long Island Sound for a lighthouse tour, hike through Stewart B. For Pete’s Sake! A Concert for Clearwater: Steve Earle, Kate Pierson of the B 52’s, Tom Rush, Willie Nile, Lucy Kaplansky, Peter Yarrow, Tom Chapin, Livingston Taylor, David Amram, Josh White Jr., and The Kennedys perform at this benefit for the sidelined sloop Clearwater that is currently undergoing a $850,000 renovation. Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome: This “living” museum of antique aviation is perfect for dad’s who are WWI flying aces – in their dreams. The museum displays aircraft from the Pioneer Era, World War I and the Lindbergh Barnstorming era. Saturday airshows chronicle the History of Flight with Pioneer, World War I and Lindbergh era aircraft including a 1909 Bleriot – the oldest flying aircraft in the United States. Matilda – Jacob Burns: The kids will love it when dad takes them to JBFC’s screening of Matilda. Based on the book of the same name, the film follows Matilda Wormwood (Mara Wilson, Mrs. Doubtfire), a curious little girl, with telekinetic powers, who is very different from her crass, obnoxious parents (Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman), who cruelly ignore her. Happy Days – Westchester Broadway Theatre: Is dad more of a Richie or Potsie? Or is he “The Fonz? Grab your poodle skirt, saddle shoes and the kids, and take a rock & roll trip down memory lane! In this new musical, based on the television series and written by its creator, Garry Marshall; your favorite Happy Days’ characters team up to save Arnold’s Malt Shop by staffing a dance contest.
