Jamie’s 5K Run for Love: This memorial run honors Jamie Love who was a member of the Byram Hills cross country and track teams. Proceeds from this event benefit children’s programs at the North Castle Public Library. Together with the Armonk Chamber of Commerce’s Cider & Donut Festival and the Byram Hills Preschool Association’s Fall Carnival, it’s a big day in Armonk.
The races begin at 9:15am with the 100 yard Donut Dash for kids 2-8. Ribbons are awarded to all participants.
Then Macintosh Mile for boys and girls begins at 9:25am. Medals are awarded to the top 20 boys and girls.
And finally the 5K race begins at 9:45 am with medals awarded to the top three in each age group.
Following the races, The Armonk Cider & Donut Festival and BHPA Fall Carnival begin at 10am and run until 2pm. Festivities include carnival rides, live music, kids’ activities and, of course, cider and donuts. Don’t miss the annual pie eating contest which is one of the festival’s most popular highlights.
Third Thursday Celebrations: The Armonk Chamber of Commerce also sponsors three Third Thursday Celebrations each summer in downtown Armonk. Each celebration of these all-day and into the night events begins with Armonk Sales Days. At Armonk Sales Days, shopper can find in-store promotions and trunk shows throughout town during business hours.
At 5pm, the action moves to Armonk Square where there is live music, entertainment and a variety of featured events. Past featured events include a Chili Cook-off, the Armonk Car Show, and Kids on the Town.
Each Third Thursday Celebration concludes with a Summer Concert at the Wampus Brook Park Gazebo. The Armonk Chamber gracefully accepted stewardship of this event from its founder Sam Morrell. Sam also was the founder of Armonk’s Small Town Theater Company.
Armonk Citizen of the Year Golf Outing: The Armonk Chamber of Commerce honors a local resident and a local organization for their lifetime service to the town each year. Armonk’s Whippoorwill Club is the site for this event which features 18 holes of golf, dinner and an awards ceremony. Past Armonk Citizen’s of the Year include: Sam Morrell, Ira Schulman and The Byram Hills Education Foundation, Judy Willsey and The Armonk Indepdendent Fire Department, Ed Woodyard, Susan Geffen.
