This film adaptation of his classic coming-of-age novel The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz stars Richard Dreyfuss in his first–and one of his best–performances as the ambitious, endlessly energetic, and frequently obnoxious young hustler. Constantly looking for ways to make money, he is a waiter, taxi driver, drug smuggler, forger, pinball-machine owner, and even becomes a filmmaker.
