Sleeping With Wolves, Wolf Conservation Center South Salem – Sat, 4/28, 5/5, 12, 19, 26 & Sun, 5/27: 5pm-8:30am. Nocturnal adventures offers families a chance to sleep out with over 20 wolves at the WCC. Tilly’s Tea with Alice, Tilly Foster Farm, Brewster – Fri-Sun, 5/4-6/3: Join Alice as she slide down the Rabbit Hole, hops along the river after the Cheshire Cat, takes in a croquet game or challenges the Queen at Chess at this curious adventure through Wonderland, complete with costumed characters at this iconic Brewster Farm. Planetarium Shows, Hudson River Museum Planetarium – Sat-Sun, 5/5 – 5/27: HRM’s planetarium offers 4 different shows each weekend with at least one for younger audiences. May shows: One World, One Sky: Discover the planets with Big Bird, elmo and Hu Hu Zhu for ages 5+ @ 12:30pm; The Sky Tonight is a live tour of the heavens with a planetarium educator for ages 8 plus @ 2pm; Habitat Earth explores the ocean’s depths, the forest floor and beyond to witness how human and ecological networks intersect; Victorian’s Guide to the Galaxy, or Moons of Mystery for ages 8+ @3:30pm. Cool! Marine Life Study Cruises, Maritime Aquarium Norwalk – Sun, 5/6 & Sat – Sun, 5/12-27: 1:15 – 3:45pm. Study the biodiversity of Long Island Sound’s interdependent marine life. Participants utilize such sampling techniques as a plankton tow, biodredge, mud grab and otter trawl that may bring up fish, crabs, lobsters, sea stars and more. Baby Animals! Spring on the Farm Festival, Stamford Museum & Nature Center – Sat-Sun, 5/5-6: 11am-3pm: Featuring spring’s baby animals, sheep shearing, face painting, games, crafts, music, food trucks, gardening demonstrations and the museum gallery’s exhibit, Birds In Art will be open. Bicycle Sundays on the Bronx River Parkway, Sun, 5/6-20 & 6/3-24: 10am-2pm: Bicycle Sundays return on May 6. The Westchester Parks Foundation closes off a six and a half mile stretch of the Bronx River Parkway for the exclusive use of bicyclists, joggers, scooters and strollers. Local Imax! Backyard Wilderness, IMAX Movies, The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk – Daily: 3/24 – 9/3: 11am, 1 & 3pm: This new Imax movie was filmed outside the Croton on Hudson home of the Academy Award-nominated (Children of Fate) filmmakers Andrew Young and Susan Todd. “With input from our science advisors, we worked on filming scenes of the animals that actually live in our backyard, which is part of the eastern forest ecosystem,” Young told Westchester Magazine. Local! 17th annual Bedford Fishing Derby, Bedford Hills Memorial Park – Sun, 5/6: 12-3pm: Fish at Lake Marie with Bedford Recreation. Bring your own rod, volunteers from the Sportsman’s club of Northern Westchester help bait hooks and offer fishing tips. Kids to age 15 (under 8’s must be accompanied by adults). Postponed! Bill Bower: All Over the Map, Schoolhouse Theatre – TBA: Here’s one that kids (12+) and adults will love. Bill Bowers is a mime that speaks. The Huffington Post called All Over The Map, “Hilarious and thrilling.” In this one-man, multi-media show he recounts wacky (but true) stories of 30 years of traveling around the world. Bowers has performed at Madison Square Garden, The Kennedy Center and The White House. His Broadway credits include his role as Zazu in The Lion King. Central Long Island Sound Lighthouse Cruise, Maritime Aquarium Norwalk – Sat, 5/12: 10am: Board the Maritime Aquarium’s catamaran Spirit of the Sound for this five hour tour of five central Long Island Sound lighthouses from Norwalk’s Sheffield Island to Penfield Reef in Fairfield, CT. Mother’s Day Brunch with Nisa Lee, Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll Garden – Sun, 5/13: 11:30am & 2pm: Chef Nisa Lee provides the three course meal (plus Kids menu) and the Stroll Garden provides the ambience of spring. Baah! Sheep Shearing & Farmers Market at Muscoot Farm – Sun, 5/13: 12:30-3:30pm. Every Mother’s Day Muscoot Farm shears its adult sheep and the public is invited to watch them get their spring haircut. Mother’s Day also marks the opening of the Muscoot Farmers Market. Local! 44th St. Patrick’s School Carnival in Bedford – Tues-Sun, 5/15-20: The local carnival season kicks off at St. Patrick’s School in Bedford. One of the state’s biggest grossing carnivals, this event raises money for educational ministries of the parish. Local! 5th Annual Stayin’ Alive 5K & Fun Run and Walk, Windmill Club Armonk – Sat. 5/19: 8am: The run starts at The Windmill Club and continues through Windmill’s woodsy community. Stayin’ Alive raised almost $30,000 for needed equipment for first responder’s in North Castle (Armonk, Banksville & N. White Plains) and surrounding towns last year. Fun Run at 10am. New Castle 5k & 10K Road Race & Fun Run – Sun, 5/20: This challenging course takes you from Town Hall through some of the most scenic landscapes in Chappaqua. Pirelli World Challenge & Royals Car Show, Rock Park Memorial Day Season Opener – Fri-Mon, 5/25-28: The Pirelli World Challenge series serves up races from all 7 car classes from the Big Dogs (Cadillacs, Bentley’s, Lomborghinis & Porches) to the TC class of Mustangs and BMW 228is, and the smallest class of Chevy Sonics and Mazda 2s. Bethpage Air Show, Jones Beach – Sat-Sun, 5/26-27: 10am-3pm: The US any Blue Angels headline the Jones Beach 15th Annual Memorial Day Weekend Air Show. Plus The Royal Canadian Air Force Snow Birds, the F22 Raptor the Air Force’s newest fighter aircraft. Get there early. This show, up to 200,000 people fill the beach on a single day. It is not unusual for the parking lots to be filled by 9:00am (if not earlier). When this happens, the parkways are closed and people are turned away. Lewisboro/South Salem Memorial Day Races & Fair, 10K, 5K, Mile Fun Run & Pee Wee Races – Mon, 5/28: 8am: The 10K race at 8am that takes you on challenging South Salem hills. The 5K starts at 9:30am. Both races are USA Track and Field certified. The youth Mile Fun Run is at 10:45am and Pee Wee races for 2-8 year olds are at 11:05am. Register online or on race day at 7am.
