A Taste of Westchester: Crabtree’s Kittle House

– Wed, 4/5: 6pm. Executive Chef Jay Lippin will lead the class in his preparation of a red quinoa with grilled radicchio appetizer; pan-roasted Beaver Kill trout with a spring herb sauce; locally sourced vegetables prepared using a surprise technique and his secret recipe for his CKH Coach Farm goat cheesecake with seasonal fruit. Storywalk at Gedney Park, Chappaqua – Tues 4/11- Mon 5/15: daylight hours: Stroll a trail at Gedney Park and read a story: the featured book is Rainbow Weaver/Tejedora del arcoíris by Linda Elovitz Marshall, illustrated by Elisa Chavarri. Antique Appraisal Day at Horace Greeley House – Sat, 4/22: 11am-3:30pm: Stop by the New Castle Historical Society’s Horace Greeley House with you antique treasures for an Antiques Roadshow-style appraisal from Rago Arts and Auction Center in this benefit for NCHS. Rago Arts and Auction Center specialists appear frequentyly on PBS’s Antiques Roadshow. Appraisers on hand include a generalist and specialists in jewelry, fine art and silver. Frank Shiner –Chappaqua’s “Soul Man” Concert for ChapPac: 4/22: 8pm: Straight off a sold-out show at NYC’s Cutting Room, Chappaqua’s Frank Shiner performs songs from his new album Lonely Town, Lonely Street at this benefit for the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center. 23rd Chappaqua School Foundation Spring Benefit, Briarcliff – Fri, 4/28: 7pm: This event, held at The Trump International Golf Club in Briarcliff, offers cocktails, a buffet dinner and a raffle. Over the past 23 years CSF has raised over $3 million and funded over 270 grants and projects for Chappaqua schools including 3D printers, SMART Boards, e-Readers, Visual Arts and Fitness Center technology and more. Mark Kramer and his ARS-Antiqua ensemble perform works from Johann Sebastian Bach’s early years as a court musician in Weimar, Germany. Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival Story Concert – ChapPac – Sat, 4/29: 4pm: The Chappaqua Orchestra will perform an encore presentation of Peter and the Wolf with narration by WQXR’s radio host Elliott Forrest at the newly renamed Chappaqua Performing Arts Center (ChapPac) formerly The Wallace Auditorium. Plus, the premiere performance of The Babbling Orchestra with story by Elliot Forrest and music by TCO conductor Michael Shapiro that features a solo from Mindy Kaufman the NY Phil’s principal piccolo. 7th Annual Fishing Derby, Gedney Pond – Sun, 4/30: 8:30-11am: New Castle Recreation stocks Gedney Pond with a variety of fish for this catch-and-take home event. This event for ages 6 & up offers prizes and giveaways to keep the competition going. 16 & over must have a NY State fishing license. Say Yes! Flying Solo After Sixty, Author Talk at Chappaqua Library – Thurs, 5/4: 7pm: What happens when, long-partnered and no longer youthful, we are suddenly left alone and uncoupled? Pamela Hull discusses her new book about reinventing her life after her husband died of pancreatic cancer. In this intimate narrative of loss, loneliness and bountiful awakenings, Flying Solo After Sixty explores her personal journey to European cities, becoming an author and moving to Manhattan. Academy Award Non-Winners: Manchester By The Sea, Chappaqua Library – Fri, 5/12: 7pm: Film buff Carol Durst’s (of Menus in the Movies fame) new film series brings you the best of the Oscar also-rans with a focus on films that focus on the changing definition of family. In this 2016 Oscar hopeful, Casey Affleck returns to his hometown to care for his teenage nephew after his brother’s death – an unexpected challenge.
International Concerto Winners Concert, Chappaqua Orchestra – Sat, 5/13: 8pm. The top prizewinners from TCO’s Concerto Competition held on March 31 and April 1 at the Music Conservatory of Westchester will perform solo concerti with the orchestra conducted by Michael Shapiro. Castles of New Castle, New Castle Historical Society House Tour – Thurs, 5/18: 9:30am- 2:30pm: The NCHS’s Castles of New Castle house tour showcases five homes in different architectural styles. In addition to the tour there is usually a lunch option at Crabtree’s. All proceeds from the House Tour will benefit the New Castle Historical Society. New Castle 5k & 10K Road Race & Fun Run – Sun, 5/21: 8am: This challenging course takes you from Town Hall through some of the most scenic landscapes in Chappaqua. Runners get a police escort, water stations and a sag wagon. There are awards in 8 age categories. Check in begins at 7am. Or pre-register with New Castle Recreation. (Town Hall, 200 S. Church of St. Mary’s 80th Annual Strawberry Festival – TBA: The Strawberry Festival at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin features games and crafts for kids and teens, live music, bounce castles, BBQ and strawberries, strawberries, strawberries. Including, strawberry smoothies, and St. Mary’s famous strawberry shortcake. Plus, craft vendors and treasures from the attic. Dates and times for this year’s fest have not been announced but it is usually held the first Saturday in June (that would be 6/3) from 11am-4pm. (Church of St, Mary the Virgin, 191 S.
